The EMANATE (Enhanced MANagement Agent Through Extensions) System expands the scope of SNMP management via modularly extensible management agents. The modular, hierarchical EMANATE agent system consists of a Master Agent plus Subagents which support various Management Information Base (MIB) modules. The result is a run-time extensible agent to which MIB objects can dynamically be added and deleted by connecting and disconnecting the Subagent responsible for that MIB module — without the need to recompile, relink, or restart the agent.
