Product description

Mirador CM has been designed to automate many of the functions required to implement the ITILŪ Capacity Management guidelines. The product collects data from the HP Operations Manager environment by making standard calls to one or more HP Performance Manager (PM) nodes. The names of the PM nodes are the only input that the product needs. Mirador CM interrogates the PM nodes to determine which target systems they support, finds out what data is being collected on those targets, and initiates the process of retrieving the data.

The default is to collect and update the central Capacity Database (CDB) on a daily basis, but this can be changed by the user for individual systems, groups of systems, or the entire system population.

A set of automated reports is then produced showing which systems have current or potential performance problems and providing the user with the ability to 'drill down' into detailed performance and resource consumption information for those systems. The user can optionally customize the reports and the criteria for their production, and the performance reports may be directed to a web server for presentation over the corporate intranet.

There are two steps to the capacity planning process. The first step is baseline modeling, where an appropriate model is built of the current system and its workload. The second step is scenario modeling to answer "what if" questions. For the first step, the user simply selects the required systems, and the baseline model is automatically created. The user can then use Mirador CM's scenario processor to determine the effects on service levels of changes to the workload and/or configuration.
