OpenWay by Itron is a new, highly adaptable, open architecture network solution built around metering, communication and control technology for a advanced metering network, for Utility companies. OpenWay forges a new collaborative relationship with end customers through 2-way communication, timely collection of usage and event data via multiple communications channels, and active customer participation in demand response events. The OpenWay architecture is a self-healing network, such that the individual meters themselves determine the best path of communication. The overall solution will provide utilities with outage detection functionality that will filter outage messages in cases of known storm-related outages, while preserving the ability to receive all power restoration messages very quickly. The OpenWay Smart Plug-in will provide customers the ability to monitor and swiftly correct situations that may arise with the OpenWay Solution enabling customers to realize the full benefit from this new technology.
